Much has changed over the past three decades on Highway 50 as it passes through Bolton and up into the hills north of the town. Bolton has grown considerably both in population and business. Rooftops are now visible where farm fields once sprawled and new businesses have developed along a stretch of highway that once was open, empty land. For the past 30 years, Fines Ford Lincoln has been a landmark on Highway 50 serving customers from Bolton, Caledon and its surroundings and beyond. Bob Fines has been at the helm of the dealership since its opening in 1987 and as the reputation of the business grew, so did the need to expand. Originally located on the east side of Hwy. 50, the dealership moved to its current location on the west side to a larger, brighter modern facility with space for a vast inventory of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Only select locations offer the Lincoln line-up. “Not every Ford dealer is a Lincoln dealer,” Mr. Fines explained. “It is a separate franchise with separate responsibilities because it is a luxury brand.” While Mr. Fines has been a dealership owner for three decades, his experience in the automotive business began much earlier when he worked at the original Ford dealership in Bolton. “The previous store (prior to Fines) was Chalet Ford Mercury Lincoln. In 1978, as an employee of Chalet, I remember helping the dealer fill out the application for the Lincoln franchise,” Mr. Fines explained of his history with the company. “ That translates to 39 years that I’ve been personally representing Lincoln here on Highway 50.” As a well-known, respected business leader here in the community, Mr. Fines’ reputation in the automotive industry means that people return to Fines Ford Lincoln when it’s time to purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle. In fact many families have a long history of buying their vehicles at Fines and when it’s time for new drivers in the family to purchase their first car, Fines Ford Lincoln is the only place they consider. “Our focus is happy repeat customers,” said Fines Ford Lincoln General Manager Carlos Martins about how their staff exceed customer expectations and strive to ensure everyone who drives off the lot feels confident returning when it’s time for a new car. “We not only have repeat customers,we have generational customers,” he noted as long-time clients return with younger family members who are looking for their first vehicle. While the community is changing and growing, Fines Ford Lincoln has been a mainstay of the town for three decades – and counting. Written by Brian Lockhart
