Volkswagen is ready to take on the competition with the release of their all-new Golf SportWagen Alltrack. The Alltrack, which makes its North American Debut this year, purportedly combines generous cargo space with sporty performance, ready to take on the city drive or off-roading. VW hails this model as the perfect blend of versatility and drivability, hailing its 4MOTION All-Wheel-Drive, additional clearance at the ground level, and a driving mode designed to optimize traction on uneven surfaces.
The exterior has features redesigned front and rear bumpers from that of the previous Golf SportWagen, as well as new plastic moldings on the wheel arches. The new design also sees the side sills flared slightly. Combined, these features not only create a more desirable looking vehicle, but offer increased protection on the body for the owners who want to take the Alltrack off the road.
With 17-inch allow wheels standard, and an option of 18-inch wheels on the range-tipping SEL trim, the Alltrack looks incredibly sharp. Add to that the Chrome Alltrack branding on the honeycomb grille and tailgate, its evident VW wants people to know this is no ordinary ‘station wagon’.
Inside, technology like the KESSY keyless entry with a push-start button gives the driver added convenience, and the 6.5” colour touchscreen equipped with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink provided added handsfree capabilities.
Safety features include a standard rearview camera, Adaptive Cruise Control that has the ability to regulate if the vehicle ahead is moving slower and Intelligent Crash Response System that automatically disables the fuel pump, turns on hazard lights, and unlocks all doors if there has been a collision.
The Alltrack also features one of the more recently common features, Forward Collision Warning to help detect if there is a possibility of a collision.
One other exciting feature is the driver profile selector, allowing the driver to choose from four driving modes, individual distinct and designed specifically to optimize the experience of the vehicle. These options include an Off-Road mode that adds a hill-descent control and provides better traction on off-road terrains.
The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack starts at a price of $35,295.
