Another well-known name in the luxury market, Volvo stands to make waves with their new S90, a sedan they proclaim is designed for ‘a new world’. Volvo goes so far as to hail this as the best handling Volvo they’ve ever made, combining design and driving experience for perfect and complete harmony.
Hailed as a solid representation of Swedish craftsmanship, the S90 is the more classy twin of the Volvo XC90, mixing style and safety to create a quiet and well-controlled ride.
Volvo used the exterior to introduce a beautiful new concave waterfall grille, embodying Volvo’s Iron Mark emblem badge, with the front-end also featuring sleek daytime running lights embedded into the HID headlights that Volvo has aptly named ‘Thor’s Hammer’. While the car is definitely a sedan, it has an elongated hood and raked windshield that present it with a sportier look, and the rear small windows are similar to that of a BMW.
Inside, the S90 reflects the level of wow and sophistication marked by other European luxury cars. Leather and wood combine to take comfort and design to a new level while managing to pay homage to the manufacturer’s Scandinavian roots.
The seats have both heating and cooling options, and provide plenty of leg and head-room.
The S90 also boasts several safety features, with the ability to detect pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals on the road for city driving ease of mind. The car will warn the driver and apply brakes if there is no reaction, even in the dark. What they call their ‘World-first safety’ is a system of steer assist technology designed to operate at higher speeds than usual, allowing it to detect if the vehicle strays over lane markings and automatically assisting in steering to put the car back in the right lane.
The technology also includes Pilot Assist, which will maintain a set speed or distance with the car in front of the vehicle as well as gently provide steering inputs to help keep the vehicle properly aligned within the lane. This feature works up to approximately 130 mph.
Pricing for the 2017 Volvo S90 begins at $56,900.
