Nissan continues to bring the heat in order to make their presence in the pickup truck world, with the introduction of the 2017 Titan Half-ton. This new model arrives as the ‘smaller sibling’ of the Titan XD, built with a similar frame and chassis to the larger vehicle, but with much lighter components.
The Half-ton will be the first in the pickup segment to offer a five-year, 160,000-km warranty and boasts a luxurious interior that Nissan claims will make luxury sedans jealous. The shift lever has been moved to the steering column, creating extra room in the centre console and providing extra storage space.
This Titan has a 5.6-litre Endurance V8 gas engine with a 4-valve-per-cylander design, Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) and a Nissan Direct Injection System.
The full-length, fully-boxed frame combined with the new 7-speed automatic transmission (equipped with a tow/haul mode and adjustable brake controller), the Titan Half-Ton can tow up to 9220 lbs and carry up 10 to a 1610 lb payload.
There are also towing packages available that include a unique, all around-view monitor capable of providing a ‘birds-eye’ view, downhill speed control, an integrated trailer brake controller, sway control and trailer-light check, and tow mirrors.
Five models are available for drivers to choose from—the S model, the SV, the Pro-4X, the SL, and the Platinum Reserve. All options have 390 horsepower, 394-lb of torque, and 4 doors, but while the former two can seat up to 6, while the three seat 5.
Some of the Safety Features available with the Titan Half-ton include six standard airbags throughout the cab and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Half-ton also includes an industry first design called The Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, listing all child seats that fit the rear seats of Nissan vehicles and provide tips on correct installation. Vehicle Dynamic Control helps the driver maintain their steered course, reducing engine power and applying brake pressure to specific wheels when the driver oversteers or understeers.
There is also a Traction Control System for assisting when road conditions change and an ABS system.
Pricing for the 2017 Nissan Half-ton $44,650.
